John Patrick Bray,
Playwriting/Directing/Acting
John Patrick Bray is an MFA Graduate from the Actors
Studio Drama School at New School University, a member of
the Dramatists Guild of America, Inc., and the Resident
Playwright for Off-Off Broadway's The Rising Sun Performance
Company (www.risingsunnyc.com).
He has been a member of the Actors Studio's
Playwrights/Directors Unit, a Visiting Artist with the
O'Neill Studio at Provincetown Playhouse, and a Guest
Playwright with Epic Rep. Theatre. As a playwright, his work
has been performed in various theatre in New York, including
Bleecker Street Theatre, the 78th Street Theatre Lab, and
the American Theatre of Actors (30th Annual Off-Off Broadway
Festival). His full length play, Hound, received a
staged-reading at the New School for Drama Theater,
featuring film actors Nelson Avidon and Michael Gladis, and
Broadway actor Bob Lavelle. Two of his plays have been
published with iUniverse in the Strawberry One-Act Festival
Anthologies,
www.therianttheatre.com. Hound won Honorable Mention for
the 2005 Theatre Publicus Prize for Best New Drama (Media
Darlings, San Francisco). As an actor, John was recently in
The Rising Sun Performance Company's critically acclaimed
production of Hellcab at Under St. Mark's. He has also
performed at the Actors Studio, Bleecker Street Theatre, the
Manhattan Club, HB Playwrights, Unison Arts Center (in New
Paltz), and in various other theatres in New York. He is an
At Large Judge with the New York Innovative Theatre Awards,
and a teacher in two SUNY schools.
