Doug Shankman, Jazz, Musical Theatre Dance
and Acting
Doug Shankman attended New York University and
studied Theater at the
Circle-in-the-Square theater school. He danced with Lee
Theodore founder of
The American Dance Machine. Mr. Shankman studied with many
of the contemporary dance masters: Paul Taylor, Jennifer
Muller, Donlin Foreman and Bill Hastings. He performed in
the national companies of A Chorus Line, 42nd Street,
DanceEllington with Gregory Hines, My One and Only and
Singin' in the Rain. Doug Shankman also performs as a
tap soloist with Tap Cats, Inc. He studied directing at the
Atlantic Theater Company and worked with Vinnette Carroll at
her theater in Fort Lauderdale for three consecutive years
creating original musical plays and theatrical events. As a
choreographer, he has created original ballets for the
Off-Center Dance Company, Indiana Ballet NW, Kaleidoscope
Dance Theater, Delaware Ballet, and Ballet Intensive from
Moscow, AIM and Keter Productions. Directing credits include
regional theater productions of Once on This Island, Little
Shop of Horrors, Damn Yankees, Jesus Christ Superstar,
Follies, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls. Currently he is
working with several original pieces that are in workshop.
Additionally, Doug Shankman works as a free lance casting
director.
