Heather Thomson, Opera
Workshop/VoiceCanadian Soprano Heather Thomson has been dubbed by the
Associated Press as "one of Canada's National Treasures", At
the age of 19, she was a Metropolitan Opera Finalist in New
York, and the winner of the Canadian National Talent
Festival in Montreal. Two years later, she was the winner of
the San Francisco Opera Auditions in San Francisco. She had
already performed "Rosalinda" in DIE FLEDERMAUS, "Fiordiligi"
in COSI FAN TUTTE, and "Mimi" in LA BOHEME with the Canadian
Opera Company, when she was asked to go to London to join
the Sadler's Wells Opera (now the English National Opera)
where her roles included "Micaela" in CARMEN, "Margerite" in
FAUST, and toured Europe as "Anne" in THE RAKE'S PROGRESS.
Returning to the USA, her career continued in "high gear,”
in such cities as Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Houston, New
York, Los Angeles, Tulsa, Portland, Seattle, and throughout
Canada, in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnepeg, Toronto,
and Montreal, Quebec City. As well as these, she has sung in
Germany, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Poland, and
Italy, as well as throughout South America and Asia. Her
Repertoire includes Mozart, Handel, Puccini, Verdi, Strauss,
and Wagner, as well as many other composers. She has had an
amazing career and fantastic successes in such operas as
TOSCA, MANON, and MANON LESCAUT, LA TRAVIATA, BUTTERFLY, DON
GIOVANNI, DER ROSENKAVALIER FLIEGENDER HOLLANDER, TANNHAUSER,
and as "Brunnhilde" in Wagner's RING CYCLE. She has done
three World Premieres, and many TV performances. The list of
Colleagues, Conductors, and Directors with whom she has
worked is to say the least, Impressive. She has taught at
Otto-von-Guericke Universitat in Germany, and at Western CT.
State University, and she is now teaching at the renowned
School of Music at the University of British Columbia, and
during the summer returns to her home in Danbury CT., where
she teaches privately.
